Ben Palmer, a dynamic 1st/2nd AC, Camera Operator, Director, Editor, and Photographer, moved to Los Angeles from Iowa just over two years ago to pursue a full-time career in film. Since November 2023, Palmer has been a proud member of Local 600 as a 2nd AC. His journey into the world of film has seen him take on a variety of roles and projects, each honing his skills in the camera department.
The Quest for Efficiency
When Palmer transitioned to full-time freelancing, he quickly realized the need for a reliable camera cart. "I found from working with other AC's that owning a cart was a huge advantage and it made everyone's lives easier within the department," Palmer explained. The problem he sought to solve was clear: he needed a robust solution for both transporting and storing numerous cases and camera equipment while maintaining both security and mobility. He was in search of a mobile workstation that could safely house lenses, batteries, and other accessories throughout the shoot.

"When I'm media managing, I need a space to set up my computer, drives, readers, and sometimes other monitors," he explained. Before owning the Apollo, finding a suitable workspace often took time away from his AC duties and the production's workflow. Now, with his own mobile workstation, those interruptions are a thing of the past, allowing for a smoother and more efficient process.
